Six Years and Two Teddy Bears

Madison Couch, a senior at Louisiana Tech University was TOLD that we were recreating a picture (below) from the day that Jordan Richard, a senior at Louisiana College, asked her to Homecoming at Lakeside High School six years ago this fall.

These two have been dating since August 2014 with no breaks in their six-year love story. He was an Offensive Lineman for the Warriors and Madison was a cheerleader at Lakeside. Jordan went on to play football as an Offensive Lineman at Louisiana College and Madison, a dancer since the age of 4, performed for two years on Louisiana Tech’s Regal Blues. Even though football season, dance competitions, and spring training would interfere with their time together, they have remained committed through nearly four years of college.

Maddie’s mother and I helped Jordan plan the proposal for July 4th. I later learned from The Knot that this is a favorite date for proposals. It was hot. No getting around it! But, in order to ensure that Maddie would be dressed to the nines for these proposal photos, I told her I wanted to highlight how much they had changed since 2014 so they needed to be “glammed up.” It was so exciting and nerve-racking trying to keep the plan under wraps. I had to act super casual about it and I think her mom nearly had a nervous breakdown!

After we got set up with the original bear and poster from 2014, I asked Jordan to go back to the car to get that “thing” I needed for the photo. This was, of course, preplanned but he actually thought I might need something and took an extra long time looking for photography equipment! Maddie was beginning to get a little warm…

Jordan meant for the proposal to be much simpler but with the two Mamas involved, our plan became more elaborate. I was able to find a bear, a wedding dress, and similar poster supplies. As Jordan was walking up, Maddie was making jokes about him sounding like a horse with his boots on the bleachers, but she never looked his way until he was up the ramp and then SURPRISE!

She said yes, obviously! Fireworks went off as soon as they hugged and more family and friends snuck out from behind the bleachers!

Madison’s mom was Facetiming the whole thing to Madison’s friends under the guise that she was videoing me doing my photography thing! Her bestie Kendall Brunson called as soon as I snapped the photo to the left and then the squealing began!

Six years and two teddy bears later…

Because these two Warriors have so much history on this field,

We moved on down to the football field to take more picks, but snapped one of Maddie and her mom on the way to the field! Madison is her mom’s one and only miracle child and Darlene loves her baby girl big time!

Taking a short break from the heat, we moved on to our home on Bayou Dorcheat where we took more photos against the beautiful green scenery!

Madison chose this ring months before and during the madness of COVID, her mom helped Jordan find it and get
the perfect fit.

Anyone who knows these two knows they LOVE to laugh. There’s a little competition about who’s funnier! EVERY TIME I ask them to go nose to nose, THIS happens!

Madison may get her sense of humor from her dad, Johnny Couch, who was more than happy to take comical proposal shots!

That’s me next to Jordan, well pleased with how the day turned out. He’ll be my first to get married and it’s gonna be tough because he (usually) does what I tell him to do! Now he’ll have another boss but she loves him like Jesus does, so I feel pretty good about that!
